    People | Planet | Place: Experimental Storyquilt

    Experimental pieces of a prototype storyquilt about a journey of personal transformation and healing, guided by nature's wisdom, cycles, landscapes, plants, trees and metaphors; stitch, watercolour, botanical print, transfer, flower pressings and wax, poetry and meditative drawing of the spirit of the stream.

    An experimental textile piece exploring printmaking and breakdown printing using a found metal spiral from a walk around lanes of olive groves; connecting with the spirit of the landscape and the symbolism, medicine and plight of the olive trees.

     

    Also surfacing and exploring the inner landscape of my fertility and motherhood journey.

    My largest site yet; a 24-acre estate in the Ashdown Forest that needed 'clearing' after being left empty for two years. Working on the visible and invisible realms, I cleared the house and surrounding land of imprints from years of history and human 'use', along with predecessors who needed a helping hand to 'cross over'. People's experience of the house changed dramatically - and workmen were happier to work there too!

    I worked with an expert in local biodiversity to engage a group of visitors to a private estate; exploring the native plants and flowers; and going beyond identification into connection and wonder.

    An experimental paper piece with elderberry plant material, wax and dye from the berry juice residue; capturing an important time where the local community gather to help harvest the elderberries for the infamous 'winter tonic'.

    An experimental piece with acrylic on paper; of a native american 'mother bear' symbol; exploring the power of ancient symbols to create sacred space and inspire change, hope and new choices.

    People | Planet | Place: Visualisation of Earthwatch Charity Strategy

    Worked with the leadership team of a leading environmental science and education charity to visualise their proposition across stakeholder groups; creating an artefact that was able to be used internally and with external stakeholders, audiences and funders.

    Supported the lead facilitator with the event; creating an illustrated gallery for an interactive group exercise, way-finding and space set-up and assistance with the guests and event experience.

    People | Planet | Place: Creative Engagement - Green Streets

    Designed and co-facilitated a stakeholder event for 40 people from the local community and local enterprises and community groups in the heart of an inner-London event; to harvest input to the design and funding process for a 'Greener Streets' initiative.

    People | Planet | Place: Scribing - Heritage Garden Project

    As part of the Heritage Lottery Funding Round One application, I interviewed Teachers and Head Teachers from local schools to understand their current use, needs and aspirations for local green space; harvesting invaluable input to the proposal; and a dawning reality of the low priority of nature at most mainstream schools.

    Design and co-ordinated a large 'tent' at the Havering Country Show; involving recycled materials and crafting for children and families, and conversations about recycling and being kind to our earth.

     

    The event was incredibly popular and had really good feedback from visitors and staff alike.

    A series of 9 family learning events for the RSPB at sites including National Trust, Natural England, Ragley Hall (Estate), RSPB, Oxford City Council, Countrytastic Show and Coventry Museum.

     

    Involved event curation, leading and co-ordination of the volunteer and staff teams, PR and marketing, H&S, community fund-raising and the best bit - craft and creative-nature learning activities for the children and family members.

    People | Planet | Place: Vauxhall Gardens Heritage Project

    Designed and hand-made a kit to support a group of stakeholders on the Vauxhall Heritage project; whom had very different ideas, opinions and visions about the future of Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens; the creative process cut through the politics and resulted in a clearly articulated joint vision statement for the project - a real triumph!

    Visual Planning

    A two-day off-site for the resource mobilisation team working in service of sexual and reproductive healthcare services and sexual rights around the world; designed and facilitated a participatory-planning process with a team of 18, incorporating team building and Prince2 project management introductory training; the 2-days bore results that were unprecedented within the department.

    Visual Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement

    A visual artefact designed to clearly articulate and outline the strategic aims, priorities and activities for the coming financial year; enabling the resource mobilisation team to be more effective in securing buy-in across the organisation for them to achieve their goals in service of sexual and reproductive healthcare services and sexual rights around the world.

    Visual Presentations

    The creation of a simple visual template for an Agency Creative Director to use in a pitch and presentation for new client contracts; using journeys, metaphors and landscapes to tell a story and more effectively engage the client team in a more open, creative and expansive conversation,

    Women in Leadership

    Highly confidential one-to-one sessions, both ad-hoc and ongoing; advisory services for organisational or business challenges or changes and addressing individual needs and concerns including resilience, work/life balance, career and livelihood transitions, leadership approach and development.

    A personalised retreat for two women entrepreneurs from London; actively engaged in catalysing change for women in the creative industries. Friday to Sunday immersed in the Ashdown Forest, with organic, local, vegetarian home-cooked food, juices, naps and quiet time, interspersed with forest walks and visual sessions to take stock and plan the next phase of work.

    Feminine Leadership

    A series of 4 mini-workshops to explore alternative, more natural, creative and feminine ways of approaching business and enterprise; with a group of 5 forward-thinking women owners of enterprises in East Sussex; including moon-cycle planning, feng shui and nature connection.

    An existing platform for me to contribute to children and young people in a new way; using stitch and craft as a way to connect and to engage in critical conversations about wellbeing, resilience and transition in these times of change.

    Resilient School; Resilient Community

    Working with the Head Teacher of an International School since 2017; covering creative engagement of primary age children and their families to build a new school campus-community and support enrolment and registration; also tending to thoughtful team-building and creative, resilient leadership.

    Leaders of the future; at Green School Bali

    An afternoon session at the Green School; an engaging, participatory group session to harvest the wisdom gained by young students to share more widely with other children outside of Green School.

    Thoughtful patient engagement

    A one-day event with teenage renal patients at an Alport Syndrome Patient & Community Day; involving creative harvesting of conversations about vital research into Alport Syndrome and creating content and building engagement for future patient engagement and fundraising.

    Leaders of fundraising for children

    Creative engagement with the 100-strong fundraising department at a leading international children's charity; an invitation to pause, regroup and reflect after astounding results that year - and a gentle, fun and creative exercise to reconnect with passion & purpose.

     

    The process received excellent, moving feedback - and the 30ft collage of A4 drawings from each team member was then installed in the London Head Office!

    Green Space Survey for Local Schools

    I interviewed Teachers and Head Teachers from local schools to understand their current use, needs and aspirations for local green space; harvesting invaluable input to the Heritage Lottery proposal; and a dawning reality of the low priority of nature at most mainstream schools.

    Young Leaders of Social Enterprises

    As a follow-on from a creative team off-site I co-designed and co-hosted with UnLtd, I worked with the Head of Engagement to develop a series of illustrated 'scenes' as visions of how their services would ideally be for young people.

    A visual journey map of the 3-years; creating an invaluable artefact for stakeholder engagement, M&E and reporting for 'Small Wonders' - a 3-year research and action programme to facilitate more early y

    Community Mapping - Livelihoods for Children

    An initiative in India to explore possibilities for livelihoods for children of the slums who had to work for their families in poverty; I worked with another artist to co-create a map of the neighbourhood to facilitate this inquiry and identify other micro or social enterprise-style possibilities in the area.

    Children in Social Care

    A one-day event with a group of children from care homes and their care-workers; to explore through drawing, painting and writing their perspectives and experiences were of being safe or not safe. Part of the BBC Children in Need 'Youth Insights' programme - it was a nurturing day for the children and young people, and a deeply moving and insightful experience for me.

    Partnerships with Schools & Children's Charities

    Researched numerous communities, neighbourhood areas and community organisations in the UK and Mumbai, India to identify potential partners for CSR and Leadership Development programmes with corporate organisations; Involved visits to children’s centres, schools, creative learning clubs and small charities providing for children and families.

     

    Co-designed and co-ordinated a series of 4 leadership events with schools in Berkshire and West London; involving a community fayre, inter-generational gatherings and exchanges and a show using drama, poetry and song to highlight the issues of sustainability and climate change.

    A series of 4 mini-workshops in early 2018 to explore alternative, more natural, creative and feminine ways of approaching leadership and enterprise; with a group of 5 forward-thinking women owners of enterprises in East Sussex; including visual planning, working to nature's rhythms, moon-cycle planning, feng shui and nature connection.

    The Art of Leadership: The vision of pioneering new centre

    Scribed and illustrated the vision for a new pioneering Ayurvedic centre; gently harvesting the elements of the vision from the Founder during a one-day off-site, to create a visual artefact that could be used for site-finding, stakeholder engagement, business planning and for the early-stage website.

    The Art of Leadership: Social Sculpture

    A strong influence from buddhism and Aikido in the way the enterprise was run; and inspired by Mac Macartneys's work; frequent 'children's fires' to consciously make decisions together and create the 'clearing' for amazing work. A very powerful experience of spirituality being at the heart of an enterprise; and ahead of the times in 2011-2012.

    The Art of Leadership: Crafting a Conscious Culture

    A courageous CEO chose to try out something different in 2009 when the 'crash' took it's toll on many businesses and when this type of initiative was high risk given the lack of proven business case statistics upfront. A risk that massively paid off, short medium and long term.

     

    A process of conscious experimentation with wellbeing, engagement, environment and visual leadership tools and practices - leading to astounding results with performance, engagement, retention, recruitment and satisfaction of customers and employees; and lots of external awards!

    Almost two years working with the Principal of a new Primary School to build community through craft and creative engagement; so far resulting in visual leadership with the new team, art days with new families and a large butterfly installation made with all founding children and staff. Next on the roadmap is a collaborative community quilt to engage elders in the school; and create an installation that can be added to every year.

    The Art of Leadership: Sea Change

    Designed and led a journey for 63 leaders of a large global corporation to have a safe way to explore the emotional / human dimension of the organisational transformation and restructure; that had been successful on the practical front, yet left the people fraught and disengaged.

    The Art of Leadership: The Butterfly Effect

    Creative direction and project management of an animation for a leader at Oxfam; engaging his global team of 200 fundraisers at a conference, to understand the challenging context within which they were operating.

    Design, illustration and production of lanyards for leaders of a leading media organisation; to assist in their learning and practice of leadership behaviours that encourage collaboration and co-operation amongst their teams.
